Dr. Brian P. Murphy was born and raised in northwest Indiana. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Indiana University Bloomington. He continued his education with Indiana University in Indianapolis where he earned a Masters Degree in Physiology and graduated from the School of Medicine in 2001. He completed five years of orthopedic surgery training in Chicago at the University of Illinois Medical Center. During his residency at Cook County Hospital he learned to take care of severely injured trauma patients in addition to advanced techniques of fracture management. He spent an additional year in Chicago completing a fellowship at Rush University Medical Center where he specialized in total joint replacement. He learned the latest technology in minimally invasive approaches from one of the pioneers of the technique, Dr. Richard Berger. He also trained under world renowned hip revision expert, Dr. Wayne Paprosky and one of the leaders in the field of hip and knee replacement Dr. Aaron Rosenberg. Dr. Murphy has published in The Journal of Arthroplasty as well as written book chapters on total joint replacement. Dr. Murphy's special interests include the gender specific knee, minimally invasive approaches, progressive pain management and rapid rehab protocols to return patients to their activities as soon as possible after surgery.
Dr. Murphy has been an IU basketball fan his entire life. He also enjoys hiking, mountain biking and tennis. He resides in Bloomington with his wife Mimi, daughter Keira and son Brady.
